People play horror games so that they can get the thrill of being scared in a controlled environment. Often, a horror game will be more intense than a movie due to the increased immersion. Players will feel more like they are actually experiencing the events on-screen.

Alien: Isolation

Alien is one of the most iconic horror films of all time. Therefore, it should undoubtedly come as little surprise that a game was also made out of it. In this title, the player is placed on a claustrophobic space station. They are trapped with an alien and must use stealth to escape it.

Resident Evil

There have been numerous games and movies in the Resident Evil series. Each one involves a shady corporation unleashing a which turns people into mutated zombies. Players usually have to use firearms to fight off monstrous enemies.

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is a popular slasher series which features over 10 instalments. There is also a console game based on the first few movies. Players either control a teenager lost in the woods or a masked killer pursuing the other characters.

Doom

In this survival action game, players must blast their way through hordes of demons. The Doom series is renowned for its extreme level of violence. Chainsaws and high powered shotguns are used to destroy waves of evil foes.

Dead Island

Melee combat is the main focus in this story which sees a group of people trapped on an island during a zombie outbreak. Points are scored by dispatching as many of the undead as possible.

The Walking Dead

This is another zombie survival game. However, the difference here is that the player’s actions directly change the course of the narrative. They are presented with multiple choices during the game, which will determine which characters live and die.
