Worms

Worms is a turn-based strategy action game franchise which has been around since 1995. Over the years, newer titles in the series have allowed players to compete with each other online. Worms is now one of the most popular games to play on the internet.

The Premise

Each player controls a group of worms who want to eliminate their rivals. These creatures are unlike their real-world counterparts, in that they have arms and can talk. They can utilise weapons and their environment to kill enemy worms. The team which survives the longest wins.

Weapons

One of the best things about Worms is the vast array of weapons to choose from. They include conventional firearms such as shotguns and Uzis. There are also more cartoonish ones such as exploding sheep and pigeons. The more powerful weapons are in limited supply, forcing players to use them tactically.

The Map

There is usually water at the bottom of the map which rises over time. This means that the worms have to stay on the move or they risk drowning. The environment can be damaged with explosives and bullets. Worms are even able to create tunnels and trenches. Each map will have a theme such as the seaside or the Wild West.

Customisation

Players can create their own team and customise their look. There are several different costumes to choose from. The phrases which the worms say can also be changed.

No Initial Time Limit

The online version of Worms does not have a time limit for rounds. This is handy as it allows people to finish their own round at their leisure. It is not unheard of for a Worms match to last for days or even weeks. However, once a player decides to start their turn, they will only have one minute to make their move.
